There are some good designers doing good things.
We should share and care!
Mahmud Şahan is a young, successful, Danish-Turkish graphic designer, graduated from Kolding Design School in 2016. We met him at a designers market in Copenhagen few years ago. Since then, we follow his work and especially admire his collages! It is a great pleasure to present some of them here. He is also published in the book Danish Art Prints as one of the 66 art print designers in Denmark.
RainTree is a fair trade brand based in Ringkøbing, working with disadvantaged women in slum of Chennai, India in production of handwoven bags and baskets. The money provided by these bags are crucial for these underprivileged women, who are widows, deserted mothers, or physically challenged, in terms of providing themselves and their children medical care, education and other basic human needs. The products are made of plastic recycled from drinking bottles, hence, the project is not only exceptional for its fair trade aspect but also for its environmental impact. Each bag uses plastic threads recycled from 40 bottles.
We met Gitte Lauridsen, owner of RainTree, in 2014 spring, for a pop-up shop we were initiating. We loved her products, her project, and herself. Since then, our business relationship grew. In 2016, we designed a new visual identity for RainTree including logotype, label, information tags, and catalog.
